Georgie Harrison is a multidisciplinary artist working as a jeweller and tattooist in Naarm/Melbourne. She studied visual communication at the University of South Australia and has worked as a tattooist for 15 years in Australia and Europe, residing in Berlin for 7 years.
She launched her jewellery label, Der Akt, in Berlin in late 2017, with a fluid collection contemplating contemporary forms and a distinctive aesthetic.
Initally drawing inspiration from ancient jewellery and artefacts, art, and the human form, her explorative creation process has evolved to ponder themes based in science, the universe, permanence, and human observation, making for an ever evolving portfolio of work in jewellery, tattoo and other mediums.
“I’m drawn to the symbolism and permanence of both jewellery and tattoo, the historical and personal significance, and the evolution of adornment.”
“I’m also intrigued by the perceived permanence of adornment in the skin vs on the skin: after its creation the tattoo’s permanence depends on our existence, whereas jewellery remains despite it.”
Georgie acknowledges the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation, Traditional Custodians of the land on which she lives and works, and pays respects to their Elders past and present. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
